SAE 5398 Heat Treatments
- Homogenization heat treatment: Heat to 1149 ± 14°C (2100 ± 25°F), hold at heat for not less than 90 minutes and cool as required to below 21°C (70°F).
Solution heat treatment: Heat to 1038 ± 14°C (1900 ± 25°F), hold at heat for 60 minutes per 25 mm of maximum cross-section, but not less than 30 minutes, and cool as required to below 21°C (70°F).
After precipitation heat treatment: after being heated to 496 ± 8°C (925 ± 15°F), held at heat for not less than 90 minutes, and cooled in air to room temperature. Properties after precipitation heat treatment at temperatures other than 496 ± 8°C (925 ± 15°F), shall be as agreed upon by purchaser and producer.
