SAE 5355 Heat Treatments


  • Homogenization heat treatment: heat to 1149°C ± 14°C (2100°F ± 25°F), hold at heat for not less than 90 minutes, and cool as required to below 21°C (70°F).
    Solution heat treatment: heat to 1038°C ± 14°C (1900°F ± 25°F), hold at heat for 1 hour per 25 mm of section thickness but not less than 30 minutes, and cool as required to below 21°C (70°F).
    Precipitation heat treatment: heat to 496°C ± 6°C (925°F ± 10°F), hold at heat for not less than 90 minutes, and cool in air.
    Precipitation heat treat parameters:
    H900: Heat to 482°C ± 6°C (900°F ± 10°F) hold 90 minutes minimum
    H925: Heat to 496°C ± 6°C (925°F ± 10°F) hold 90 minutes minimum
    H1000: Heat to 538°C ± 6°C (1000°F ± 10°F) hold 90 minutes minimum
    H1025: Heat to 552°C ± 6°C (1025°F ± 10°F) hold 90 minutes minimum
    H1100: Heat to 593°C ± 6°C (1100°F ± 10°F) hold 90 minutes minimum
    H1150: Heat to 621°C ± 6°C (1150°F ± 10°F) hold 90 minutes minimum
