AISI 4142 Heat Treatments


  • Heat treated by quenching in oil from above the transformation temperature and then tempered by reheating to at least 371°C (700°F).
  • Heated to a suitable temperature at or above the upper critical temperature, but not exceeding 925°C (1700°F), held a sufficient length of time to attain essentially uniform temperature throughout, and cooled as appropriate for the condition specified.
