SAE Ti-6Al-4V Heat Treatments
- Stress relieved in accordance with AMS2801 in an inert, air, or vacuum atmosphere by heating to a selected set point temperature between 677 to 788°C (1250 to 1450°F). Hold at the selected temperature within ±14°C (±25°F) for a length of time commensurate with the cross-section size, followed by furnace-cool to 496°C (925°F) prior to cooling with inert gas or nitrogen to room temperature. When using a contact load sensor, the soaking time necessary to heat the center of the thickest section of the preform shall be per AMS2801. Stress relief in air is only permitted when preforms are machined all over following the stress-relief operation.
- Hot Isostatic Pressing: Process in accordance to AMS4999 at not less than 14.5 ksi (100 MPa) within the range 1650 to 1750°F (899 to 954°C), hold at the selected temperature within ±25°F (±14°C) for 2 to 4 hours, and cool under inert atmosphere in the autoclave to below 800°F (427°C). Cool from 800°F (427°C) at any rate
