SAE Inconel 718 Heat Treatments
- Homogenization heat treatment: Heat in a suitable protective atmosphere to 1093 ± 14°C (2000 ± 25°F), hold at heat for 1 to 2 hours, and cool at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster to 482°C (900°F). Any convenient rate may be used below 482°C (900°F).
Solution heat treatment: Heat in a suitable protective atmosphere to a temperature within the range of 954 to 982°C (1750 to 1800°F), hold at the selected temperature within ± 14°C (± 25°F) for not less than one hour, and cool at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster.
Precipitation heat treatment: Heat to 718 ± 8°C (1325 ± 15°F), hold at heat for 8 hours (+30 minutes), furnace cool to 621 ± 8°C (1150 ± 15°F) at an average rate of 55 ± 8°C (100 ± 15°F) per hour, hold at 621 ± 8°C (1150 ± 15°F) for 8 hours (+30 minutes) and cool at a rate equivalent to air cool. - Material condition: 982°C; 718°C and 621°C.
