B.S. TA 53 Heat Treatments
- The material and test samples shall be heat treated as follows:
1) Heat uniformly at a temperature between 805°C and 820°C for a time dependent on the cross section, with a minimum of 30 minutes
2) Cool in still air, forced air blast, oil or water, according to the ruling section
It is recommended that, in order to obtain the specified mechanical properties, material of ruling section greater than 25 mm should be cooled by quenching in forced air blast, oil or water.
3) Heat at a temperature of 400°C ± 5°C for not less than 8 hours nor more than 24 hours
4) Heat (with or without intermediate air cooling) at a temperature of 475°C ± 5°C for 8 hours
5) Cool in air
