B.S. TA 52 Heat Treatments
- Solution treated + descaled: 805 °C <= θ <= 820 °C / t <= 30 mins / AC Solution treated + precipitation treated: + θ = 400 °C ±5 °C / 8 h <= t <= 24 h + (with or without intermediate AC) θ = 475 °C ±5 °C / t = 8 h / AC
- The material shall be solution treated as follows:
1) Heat uniformly at a temperature between 805 °C and 820 °C and hold for not more than 30 minutes
2) Cool in air at a suitable rate dependent on the thickness.
Test samples for the bend test shall not be further heat treated.
Test samples for the tensile test shall be further heat treated as follows:
1) Heat at a temperature of 400°C ± 5 °C for not less than 8 hours nor more than 24 hours
2) Heat (with or without intermediate air cooling) at a temperature of 475°C ± 5 °C for 8 hours
3) Cool in air.
