Precipitation Heat Treated at 227 ± 6°C (440 ± 10°F), 7-9 hours.
Permanent Mold Castings
Precipitation Heat Treated at 227 ± 6°C (440 ± 10°F), 7-9 hours.
Temper T6
Sand Castings
Solution Heat Treated(1) at 538 ± 6°C (1000 ± 10°F), 8-12 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated at 154 ± 6°C (310 ± 10°F), 3-5 hours.
Permanent Mold Castings
Solution Heat Treated(1) at 538 ± 6°C (1000 ± 10°F), 4-12 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated at 154 ± 6°C (310 ± 10°F), 2-5 hours.
Temper T7
Sand Castings
Solution Heat Treated(1) at 538 ± 6 °C (1000 ± 10°F), 8-12 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated at 204 ± 6°C (400 ± 10°F), 3-5 hours.
Permanent Mold Castings
Solution Heat Treated(1) at 538 ± 6 °C (1000 ± 10°F), 4-12 hours;

Temper T71

Precipitation Heat Treated at 246 ± 6°C (475 ± 10°F), 2-4 hours.
Permanent Mold Castings
Solution Heat Treated(1) at 538 ± 6 °C (1000 ± 10°F), 4-12 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated at 246 ± 6°C (475 ± 10°F), 3-6 hours.
(1) Quench in water at 65 to 100°C (150 to 212°F) except as noted. - Solution heat treatment shall be at the temperature: 538°C (1000°F), minimum soak time is 6 hours and Quenched;
Final solution heat treatment above 543°C (1010°F) may require an intermediate solution heat treatment of 1 hour minimum at 538 to 543°C (1000 to 1010°F) to prevent eutectic melting of magnesium-rich phases during final solution heat treatment.
Temper after Solution treatment shall be T4 and delay at room temperature.
Annealing at 441°C (825°F), minimum soak time is 1 hour; Air cooling;
Aging (precipitation heat treatment):
Condition before Aging F (as cast);
Aging at 227°C (440°F), soak time is 6-12 hours;
Temper T51 after Aging.
Aging (precipitation heat treatment):
Condition before Aging W or T4;
Aging at 154°C (310°F), soak time is 1-6 hours;
Temper T6 after Aging.
Aging (precipitation heat treatment):
Condition before Aging W or T4;
Aging at 204°C (400°F), soak time is 3-6 hours;
Temper T7 after Aging.
Aging (precipitation heat treatment):
Condition before Aging W or T4;
Aging at 246°C (475°F), soak time is 3 minimum hours;
Temper T71 after Aging.
