PROPRIETARY Böhler M268 VMR Heat Treatments
- Since material is supplied in the hardened and tempered condition, no heat treatment is generally required.
Annealing: 720 - 740°C. Slow, controlled cooling in furnace at a rate of 10-20°C/hr down to approx. 600°C, further cooling in air..
Stress relieving: appr. 500°C. In hardened and tempered condition approx. 30 - 50°C below the tempering temperature. After through-heating, hold at temperature in a neutral atmosphere for 1 to 2 hr. Cool slowly in furnace.
Hardening: 840 - 880°C/Oil, N2. After through-heating, hold for 15 - 30 minutes.
Tempering: Slow heating to tempering temperature immediately after hardening. Time in furnace: 1 hour for each 20 mm of workpiece thickness, but at least 2 hr. Cool in air. For average hardness values after tempering please refer to the tempering chart.
