PROPRIETARY BÖHLER 4140 Heat Treatments
- Forged at 850 - 1050°C, cooled in furnace. Normalized at 840 - 880°C, air cooled. Annealed 680 - 720°C, cooled slowly in controlled furnace. Stress relieved in the quenched and tempered condition, about 30 - 50°C below the tempering temperature. Air cooled in the annealed condition, 600 - 650°C, air cooled. Hardened at 830 - 860°, oil quenched. Tempered at 540 - 680°C hold for 1 hour min. at temperature, air cooled. Nitrided - suitable for both liquid and gas nitriding.
