PROPRIETARY SMHW Heat Treatments

  • Annealed: Heated to 875°C; Slowly cooled; stopped in air at 500°C.
Quenched and tempered: Preheated to 750°C; Heated to 980°C; Air or pressure gas cooled. For massive parts, cooling at air can be replaced by quenching in a salt bath at 220°C, followed by stopping in air. It is recommended to perform the heating under neutral atmosphere. To obtain the maximum hardness tempered at 200°C; it is necessary to make two successive tempering at 500°C.
