SAE 5611 Heat Treatments
- The specimens shall be hardened by heating to 946°C ± 14°C (1735°F ± 25°F), holding at heat for 1 hour ± 0.1 hour, and cooling in still air to room temperature and double tempered by heating to 316°C ± 6°C (600°F ± 10°F), holding at heat for 2 hours ± 0.25 hour, and cooling in air, reheating to 316°C ± 6°C (600°F ± 10°F), holding at heat for 2 hours ± 0.25 hour, and cooling in air.
