JIS SQV1B Heat Treatments
- The heat treatment of steel plates shall be as follows.
a) Steel plates shall be quenched and tempered unless otherwise agreed between the purchaser and the manufacturer. Quenching at 845 to 980°C and tempering at 595°C or over. The steel plates shall be quenched in water after being heated. They shall be tempered while held at that temperature for 30 min or longer per 25 mm in thickness after being heated to a suitable temperature. The minimum holding time shall be 30 min.
b) If the purchaser replaces quenching and specified in a) with other heat treatment, the steel plates shall be as rolled, heat treated by stress relieving annealing, or heat treated by the means as specified, in all cases to be selected by the agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.
Steel plates, especially those with thickness of 25 mm or over should be heat treated by stress relieving annealing, because steel plates as rolled are liable to produce cracks by the time the plates are processed by the purchaser; Holding time should be [(1.2 x thickness) min] or over
