B.S. HR 55 Heat Treatments
- Bars and extruded sections for machining: Delivery condition - Solution treated: Θ = (1 040 ±10) °C / t = 2 h / AC or OQ. Use condition - Solution treated + precipitation treated: Delivery condition + Θ = (800 ±10) °C / t = 2 h / AC + Θ = (700 ±10) °C / t = 16 h / AC; Extruded sections for subsequent forming: Delivery condition - Softened: Θ = (1 040 ±10) °C / t = 2 h / WQ; Forgings: Delivery = Use condition - Solution treated + precipitation treated: Θ = (1 040 ±10) °C / t = 2 h / AC or OQ + Θ = (800 ±10) °C / t = 2 h / AC + Θ = (700 ±10) °C / t = 16 h / AC. Billets and bars for forging: Solution treated + precipitation treated Θ = (1 040 ±10) °C / t = 2 h / AC or OQ + Θ = (800 ±10) °C / t = 2 h / AC + Θ = (700 ±10) °C / t = 16 h / AC
- Softening treatment: The softening treatment shall consist of heating at a temperature of 1040°C for 2 h, followed by quenching in water.
Solution treatment: The solution treatment shall consist of heating at a temperature of 104 °C for 2 h, followed by cooling in air or quenching in oil.
Final heat treatment:
Stage 1: Heat at a temperature of 800°C for 2 h, followed by cooling in air
Stage 2: Heat at a temperature of 700°C for 16 h, followed by cooling in air.
