SAE Ti-7Al-4Mo Heat Treatments
- Bars and forgings shall be annealed as follows: heat to a temperature within the range 704-788°C (1300-1450°F), hold at the selected temperature within ± 14°C (± 25°F) for a time commensurate with section thickness and the heating equipment and procedure used, and cool at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster.
- Solution heat treatment: Heating to a temperature within the range 899 - 968°C (1650 - 1775°F), holding at the selected temperature within ± 14°C (± 25°F) for time commensurate with size and with the heating equipment and procedure used, and quenching in water and precipitation heat treated by heating to a temperature within the range 510 - 649°C (950 - 1200°F), holding at the selected temperature within ± 8°C (± 15°F) for a time commensurate with the thickness and with the heating equipment and procedure used, and cooling at a rate equivalent to air cooling.
Stress relieving: After coining, cold-sizing, or straightening product heat treated stress relieve the product at a temperature not higher than 607°C (1125°F) provided that mechanical properties are met.
