PROPRIETARY VIMAC3V Heat Treatments
- Annealing: Soft annealing may be carried out by heating between 850 and 880°C for 2 hours, followed by slow cooling at 10/20°C per hour until 650°C and, then, by air cooling. In this treatment, the use of protective atmosphere is important to avoid surface decarburization.
Stress relieving: Heat between 600 and 700°C and hold until complete homogenization. Cool slowly down to at least 500°C.
Hardening and Tempering:
Hardening in a protective atmosphere with preheating in two steps at 400/500°C and 860/880°C and austenitising at a temperature suitable for chosen working hardness. Considering the necessity of high wear resistance, the indicated temperatures are: Hardening (1200-1220°C) and Tempering (560°C).
