MS SWRCH16K Heat Treatments
- Carburizing: 880-980°C; Direct and simple hardening: 830-870°C; Double hardening - Core hardening: 880-920°C, Case hardening: 780-820°C; Tempering: 150-200°C; The temperatures given for carburizing, direct and simple hardening, core hardening, case hardening and tempering are for guidance only. The actual temperatures chosen should be those that will give the properties required; The carburizing temperature will depend on the chemical composition of the steel, the mass of the product, and the carburizing medium. In general, if the steels are direct hardened, a temperature of 950°C is not exceeded. Also, for special procedures e.g. under vacuum, higher temperatures, e.g. 1020-1050°C, are not unusual; If the steels are direct hardened and if there is a danger of distortion, they should be quenched from a temperature between the core-hardening and case-hardening temperatures; Time for tempering, as a guide: 1h minimum.
