ISO 4539-089-04-I Heat Treatments
- Heat treated at 250-425°C; Duration: 30 min to 4h; Air cooling; The optimum heat treatment conditions may be very different. The spring manufacturer shall choose those conditions answering the purpose; The heat treatment data refer to compression springs, torsion and tension (springs without initial tension); The lower temperature is recommended for extension springs with prestress.
- Hot forming: 1150-850°C, air cooling; Solution annealing (+AT): 1060-1140°C, water or air rapid cooling. If the temperature of hot forming does not drop below the lower temperature for solution annealing, a temperature of 980°C is adequate as a lower limit for Mo-free steels, a temperature of 1000°C for steels with Mo contents up to 3%, and a temperature of 1020°C for steels with Mo contents exceeding 3%.
