EN 10085: 2001 / Nitriding steels - Technical delivery conditions
Heat Treatments
- Soft annealing: 650-750°C; Hardening: 870-930°C (0,5 h minimum), oil or water cooling; Tempering: 580-700°C (1 h minimum); Nitriding: 480-570°C.
- The base composition and the heat treatment (quenching and tempering) prior to nitriding both have an influence on the results of nitriding treatment. The tempering temperature should not be less than 50°C higher than the nitriding temperature. A difference of less than 50°C should be the subject of a special agreement.
Soft annealing at 650-750°C;
Hardening at 870-930°C (time for austenitizing as a guide: 0.5 minimum) and quenching in oil or water;
Tempering at 580-700°C (time for tempering as a guide: 1 h minimum; With very large sizes, the tempering temperature may be agreed at the time of enquiry and order);
Nitriding at 480-570°C (Time for nitriding depends on the desired depth of the nitrided case).
