PROPRIETARY VDM alloy 36 Heat Treatments
- Can be hot-formed at 1050-800°C (1950-1472°F) with subsequent rapid cooling down in water or air. Annealing at 820-900°C (1580-1652°F) followed by air cooling. Stress-relief annealing at 700°C (1292°F).
The lowest heat expansion values at 100°C (212°F) are achieved in 3 steps:
1) Annealing at 830°C (1526°F) for approx. 30 min., followed by water quenching.
2) Heating to 300°C (572°F); holding for 1 h, cooling in air.
3) Reheating to 100°C (212°F); holding for 30 min., furnace cool for 48 hours to room temperature.
