PROPRIETARY Carpenter O1 Heat Treatments
- Normalizing: heating uniformly to 871°C (1600°F), then cooling in still air.
Annealing: Heat uniformly to 760/788°C (1400/1450°F), then cool very slowly in the furnace at a rate of not more than 11°C (20°F) per hour until the furnace is black.
Hardening: it may be hardened from temperatures between 788/816°C (1450/1500°F). Endothermic atmospheres should be held to dew point limits between 7/18°C (45/55°F).
Stress Relieving: first rough machine, then heat to a temperature of 649/677°C (1200/1250°F), hold at heat for a minimum of 1 hour, then cool slowly.
