ASTM A 182 F 1 Heat Treatments
- After hot working, forgings shall be cooled to a temperature below 538°C (1000°F) prior to heat treating.
Annealing: austenitizing/solution heat treatment temperature 899°C (1650°F) minimum, furnace cooling.
Normalizing and tempering: austenitizing/solution heat treatment temperature 899°C (1650°F) minimum, air cooling. Tempering temperature 621°C (1150°F) minimum.
Alternatively, may be given a heat treatment of 649°C (1200°F) minimum after final hot or cold forming.
