ASTM A 543 Type C Class 2 Heat Treatments
- Heating to austenitizing temperature, holding to attain uniform temperature through the thickness and quenching in liquid medium by spraying or immersion. After quenching, the plates shall be tempered at 595°C (1100°F), holding not less that 1.2 min/mm of thickness and not less than 30 min. Plates over 100 mm in thickness shall receive a prior heat treatment of normalizing at, or water quenching from, a temperature within the range from 900 to 1010°C (1650 to 1850°F).
