AISI 420 Heat Treatments
- Annealed, or hardened and tempered as specified. Liquid quenching shall be permitted only by agreement with the purchaser
Heat treating at 955°C ± 14°C (1825 ± 25°F) and quenching in the air. (samples for testing shall be in the form of a section not exceeding 9.50 mm in thickness)
It should be used by the purchaser in the hardened and tempered condition. - After heat treating at 1000°C ± 15°C (1825°F ± 25°F) and air quenching, grade shall be capable of meeting the hardness of 50 HRC minimum (testing section t ≤ 9.50 mm).
