SAE 5884 Heat Treatments
- The product shall be solution heat treated by heating to a temperature within the range 968 -1010°C (1775-1850°F), holding at the selected temperature within ± 14°C (±25°F) for a time commensurate with section thickness and cooling at a rate equivalent to a still air cool.
Re-solution heat treated by heating to 982 ± 14°C (1800 ± 25°F), holding at heat for 60 ± 15 minutes, and cooling at a rate equivalent to an air cool and precipitation heat treated by heating to 718 ± 8°C (1325 ± 15°F), holding at heat for 8 hours ± 30 minutes, cooling at a maximum rate of 56°C (100°F) per hour to 621 ± 8°C (1150 ± 15°F), holding at heat for 8 hours ± 30 minutes and cooling at a rate equivalent to an air cool.
