SAE PH 13-8Mo Heat Treatments
- Bars, wire, forgings, flash welded rings, and extrusions shall be solution heat treated by heating to 927 ± 14°C (1700 ± 25°F), holding at heat for a time commensurate with section thickness, heating equipment, and procedure used, and cooling to below 16°C (60°F).
Precipitation hardening conditions:
H950: 510 ± 6°C (950 ± 10°F), 4 + 0.5 hours;
H1000: 538 ± 6°C (1000 ± 10°F), 4 + 0.5 hours;
H1025: 552 ± 6°C (1025 ± 10°F), 4 + 0.5 hours;
H1050: 566 ± 6°C (1050 ± 10°F), 4 + 0.5 hours;
H1100: 593 ± 6°C (1100 ± 10°F), 4 + 0.5 hours;
H1150: 621 ± 6°C (1150 ± 10°F), 4 + 0.5 hours. - Stress Relief Heat Treatment: Heat treatment shall be performed by heating to 482°C ± 14°C (900 °F ± 25 °F) and soaking for at least 1 h plus 1 h additional for each 25 mm of thickness or fraction there of greater than 25 mm. When load thermocouples are used, the soaking time shall be at least 1 h.
