DIN 1.8983 Heat Treatments


  • Hardening from hot forming temperature from 900 to 950°C and cooling in water; Tempering from 600-680°C, cooling in air; Stress relieving: at 530-580°C, for t <= 15.00 mm, duration 15min, for 15.00 < t <= 30.00 mm, duration 30 min. and for t > 30.00 mm about 60 min. and cooling in air.
  • If, due to regulations or for constructional reasons, stress relief annealing is necessary, it should be carried out at 530-580°C. If, in special cases, a higher temperature is to be used, the temperature must be 30°C lower than the actual tempering temperature, with a holding time of no more than 60 minutes.
