DIN 1.8986 Heat Treatments
- Normalizing or hardening: heat at 880°C to 940°C, after reaching the temperature in the entire cross section, cool in water or oil.
Tempering: heat at 600°C to 730°C, hold for at least 30 minutes, cool in air.
Stress relief annealing: heat at 530°C to 580°C, hold at least 15 minutes for thickness 15 mm and under; 30 minutes at least for thickness 15 - 30 mm; 60 minutes at least for thickness 30 - 50 mm, and cool in air.
