PROPRIETARY CarTech Pyrotool Alloy 7 Heat Treatments
- Decarburization: not subject to decarburization.
Solution treatment: 954°C (1750°F), one hour, air cool.
Age: 718°C (1325°F) for eight hours, slow cool 56°C (100°F) per hour to 621°C (1150°F), hold eight hours and air cool.
Forging: Hot working is carried out using a 1121°C (2050°F) maximum furnace temperature. Hot-cold working in the range of 927-1010°C (1700-1850°F) will improve the strength of the forging if the service temperature is below about 593°C (1100°F). Prolonged soaking at the forging temperature is not desirable. The material should be given uniform reductions to avoid the formation of duplex grain structures.
Cold working: Work hardens very rapidly. Frequent anneals are required.
