SAE A03540 Heat Treatments
- Temper T61
Permanent Mold Castings. Hold at room temperature for 8h minimum between solution and precipitation heat treatments.
Solution Heat Treated (1) at 527 ± 6°C (980 ± 10°F), 10-12 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated (2) at 154 ± 6°C (310 ± 10°F), 10-12 hours.
(1) Quench in water at 65–100°C (150 to 212°F) except as noted.
(2) Quench in water at 65 to 100°C (150 to 212°F) for controlled time of 10-20 s only, then cool in still air outside the furnace
