SAE A02080 Heat Treatments
- Temper T4
Permanent Mold Castings:
Solution Heat Treated (1) at 504 ± 6°C (940 ± 10°F), 4-12 hours;
Temper T55
Sand Castings
Precipitation Heat Treated at 154 ± 6°C (310 ± 10°F), 16 hours;
Temper T6
Permanent Mold Castings
Solution Heat Treated (1) at 504 ± 6°C (940 ± 10°F), 4-12 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated at 154 ± 6°C (310 ± 10°F), 2-5 hours;
Temper T7
Permanent Mold Castings:
Solution Heat Treated (1) at 504 ± 6°C (940 ± 10°F), 4-12 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated at 260 ± 6°C (500 ± 10°F), 4-6 hours.
(1) Quench in water at 65–100°C (150 to 212°F) except as noted.
