SAE Haynes 282 Heat Treatments
- Product 1.016 mm and above in thickness shall be solution heat treated by heating in a suitable atmosphere within the range of 1093 to 1149°C (2000 to 2100°F), holding at the selected temperature ± 15°C (± 25°F) for a time commensurate with the thickness, and cooling at a rate equivalent to air cool or faster.
For product under 1.016 mm in thickness, is recommended that the product be solution heat treated by heating in a suitable protective atmosphere, preferably in hydrogen or argon or in vacuum (10-4 torr or less), within the range of 1093 to 1149°C (2000 to 2100°F), holding at the selected temperature ± 15°C (± 25°F) for a time commensurate with the thickness, and cooling at a rate equivalent to air cool or faster.
For product 0.25 mm and under in nominal thickness, a dew point of -50°C (-60°F) or lower is preferable when using hydrogen or argon atmosphere
After being precipitation heat treated by heating to 1010°C ± 8°C (1850°F ± 15°F), holding at heat for 2 hours and cooling at a rate equivalent to cooling in air, followed by heating to 788°C ± 8°C (1450°F ± 15°F), holding at heat for not less than 8 hours, and cooling at a rate equivalent to cooling in air. - Solution heat treated by heating to a temperature within the range of 1093-1149°C (2000°F-2100°F) ± 14°C (± 25°F), holding at heat for a time commensurate with cross-sectional thickness, and cooling at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster.
Precipitation heat treated by heating to 1010°C ± 8°C (1850°F ± 15°F), holding at heat for 2 hours (± 15 minutes) and cooling at a rate equivalent to cooling in air or faster to ambient temperature, followed by heating to 788°C ± 8°C (1450°F ± 15°F), holding at heat for not less than 8 hours (± 15 minutes), and cooling at a rate equivalent to cooling in air.
