SAE Waspaloy Heat Treatments
- Annealed by heating in a suitable atmosphere to 1079 ± 14°C (1975 ± 25°F), holding at heat for not more than 30 minutes, and cooling at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster.
Solution heat treated by heating in a suitable protective atmosphere to 996 ± 14°C (1825 ± 25°F), holding at heat for 2 ± 0.25 hours, and cooling at a rate equivalent to air cool or faster.
Stabilization heat treated by heating to 843 ± 8°C (1550 ± 15°F), holding at heat for 4 ± 0.25 hours, and cooling in air.
Precipitation heat treated by heating to 760 ± 8°C (1400 ± 15°F), holding at heat for 16 ± 1 hours, and cooling at a rate equivalent to air cooling. - Bars, Wire, Forgings, and Flash Welded Rings: Solution heat treated by heating to 1079 ± 14°C (1975 ± 25°F), holding at heat for 4 ± 0.5 hours, and cooling at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster;
Stock for Heading: Shall be solution heat treated by heating within the range 1038 to 1079°C (1900 to 1975°F), holding at the selected temperature within ± 14°C (± 25°F) for 1 to 4 hours, and cooling at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster;
After Stabilization and Precipitation Heat Treatments the product shall conform to the following requirements after being stabilization heat treated by heating to 843 ± 8°C (1550 ± 15°F) holding at heat for 4 hours ± 0.25 hour, except that blade forgings shall be held at heat for 24 hours ± 1 hour; cooled in air; precipitation heat treated by heating to 760 ± 8°C (1400 ± 15°F), holding at heat for 16 hours ± 1 hour, and cooling in air.
