PROPRIETARY Alloy K-500 Heat Treatments
- All material shall be refined by Electro Slag Refining. Precipitation Treatment shall be undertaken by:
a. Double-ageing at 580-610˚C, then 480˚C, followed by air cool
b. Double-ageing at 640˚C, then 480˚C, followed by air cool. - Solution annealing: commonly carried out at temperatures in the range of 871 - 1038°C (1600 - 1900°F) followed by a rapid quench to avoid formation of detrimental phases. Time at temperature should be kept to a minimum to avoid excessive grain growth.
Aging: Holding at 593°C (1100°F) for 16 hours, followed by a furnace cool at -9°C to -4°C (15°F to 25°F) per hour to 482°C (900°F). Once the material reaches 482°C (900°F), it can be air cooled or quenched.
Hot finished/Cold worked and aged: Aging at 593°C (1100°F) for 16 hours, furnace cool to 538°C (1000°F) for 6 hours, furnace cool to 482°C (900°F), air cool.
Hot finished/Cold drawn and annealed: Annealed at 871°C (1600°F) and water quench.
Hot finished/Cold drawn, annealed and aged: Annealed at 871°C (1600°F) and water quench, aging at 593°C (1100°F) for 16 hours, furnace cool to 538°C (1000°F) for 6 hours, furnace cool to 482°C (900°F), air cool.
