SAE 295.0 Heat Treatments
- Sand Castings:
Temper T4
Solution Heat Treated (1) at 516 ± 6°C (960 ± 10°F), 12 hours;
Temper T6
Solution Heat Treated (1) at 516 ± 6°C (960 ± 10°F), 12 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated at 154 ± 6°C (310 ± 10°F), 3-6 hours;
Temper T62
Solution Heat Treated (1) at 516 ± 6°C (960 ± 10°F), 12 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated at 154 ± 6°C (310 ± 10°F), 12-24 hours;
Temper T7
Solution Heat Treated (1) at 516 ± 6°C (960 ± 10°F), 12 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated at 260 ± 6°C (500 ± 10°F), 4-6 hours.
(1) Quench in water at 65–100°C (150 to 212°F) except as noted. - Solution heat treatment: heat to 960°F ± 10 (515°C ± 5), hold at heat for 12 hr ±0.25, and quench in hot (150° - 212°F (65° - 100°C)) water. Precipitation heat treatment: heat to 31O°F ±10 (155°C ± 5), hold at heat for 3 - 6 hr, and cool in air.
