SAE 333.0 Heat Treatments
- Temper 5
Permanent Mold Castings
Precipitation Heat Treated at 204 ± 6°C (400 ± 10°F), 7-9 hours;
Temper T6
Permanent Mold Castings
Solution Heat Treated (1) at 504 ± 6°C (940 ± 10°F), 6-12 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated at 154 ± 6°C (310 ± 10°F), 2-5 hours;
Temper T7
Permanent Mold Castings
Solution Heat Treated (1) at 504 ± 6°C (940 ± 10°F), 6-12 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated at 260 ± 6°C (500 ± 10°F), 4-6 hours.
(1) Quench in water at 65 to 100°C (150 to 212°F) except as noted. - Solution heat treatment shall be at the temperature: 504°C (940°F), minimum soak time is 2 hours and Quenched;
Temper after Solution treatment shall be T4 and delay at room temperature.
Annealing at 441°C (825°F), minimum soak time is 1 hour; Air cooling;
Aging (precipitation heat treatment):
Condition before Aging F (as cast);
Aging at 204°C (400°F), soak time is 7-9 hours;
Temper T5 after Aging.
Aging (precipitation heat treatment):
Condition before Aging W, or T4;
Aging at 154°C (310°F), soak time is 2-5 hours;
Temper T6 after Aging.
Aging (precipitation heat treatment):
Condition before Aging W, or T4;
Aging at 260°C (500°F), soak time is 4-6 hours;
Temper T7 after Aging.
