ISO SS Type 2 Heat Treatments
- Bars, forgings and wire rods:
Solution treated (ST): 1065 ± 15°C, cool in air or oil
Precipitation hardened (R 127): 955 ± 10°C, for 10 minutes, cool rapidly to 20°C max, cool within 1 h to - 70°C max, hold not less than 8 h, warm in air to room temperature. Heat to 510 ± 10°C, hold 1 h, cool in air.
Precipitation hardened (R 117): 760 ± 10°C for 90 minutes, cool to 20°C max within 1 h, hold not less than 30 minutes. Heat to 565 ± 10°C for 90 minutes, cool in air.
Wire:
CW: No treatment, as cold worked.
Solution treated (ST): 1040 ± 15°C, cool in air or oil.
Precipitation hardened (R 172): 480 ± 10°C, for 1 h, cool in air.
Precipitation hardened (R 127): 955 ± 10°C, for 10 minutes, cool rapidly to 20°C max, cool within 1 h to - 70°C max, hold not less than 8 h, warm in air to room temperature. Heat to 510 ± 10°C, hold 1 h, cool in air.
Precipitation hardened (R 117): 760 ± 10°C for 90 minutes, cool to 20°C max within 1 h, hold not less than 30 minutes. Heat to 565 ± 10°C for 90 minutes, cool in air.
Sheet and strip:
CW: No treatment, as cold worked.
Solution treated (ST): 1040 ± 15°C, cool in air or oil.
Precipitation hardened (R 165): 480 ± 10°C, for 1 h, cool in air.
Precipitation hardened (R 145): 955 ± 10°C, for 10 minutes, cool rapidly to 20°C max, cool within 1 h to - 70°C max, hold not less than 8 h, warm in air to room temperature. Heat to 510 ± 10°C, hold 1 h, cool in air.
Precipitation hardened (R 124): 760 ± 10°C for 90 minutes, cool to 20°C max within 1 h, hold not less than 30 minutes. Heat to 565 ± 10°C for 90 minutes, cool in air.
Plates:
Solution treated (ST): 1040 ± 15°C, cool in air or oil
