DIN 1.7392 Heat Treatments
- Hardening: Heating at 910-950°C, cooling in air.
Tempering: Heating at 730-770°C, holding for at least 60 minutes, cooling in air.
Annealing temperature after welding and cold forming: 710 to 770°C. For wt ≤ 8 mm, hold at least 30 min, for 8 < wt ≤ 25 mm, hold at least 60 min. Cooling in air.
Hot forming operations should be carried out in the range 1200 °C to 850°C. Hot forming operations such as forging and upsetting are suitably carried out between 1200°C and 950°C. After forming, cooling can be performed in still air. - Normalizing and tempering (+NT): 910-950°C, air cooling. Tempering: 730-770°C, air cooling. It may be necessary in the case of wall thickness T above 10 mm or T/D > 0.15 to apply quenching and tempering in order to achieve the intended structure and material properties.
