PROPRIETARY VP50IM Heat Treatments
- Solubilization: Heat slowly and evenly to 400°C at a rate of 100°C/h. Then, at a maximum of 300°C/h, heat up to a solubilization temperature between 880/920°C, keep until completely homogenized and then cool in forced air. Cooling can also be carried out in oil suitable for quenching, stirred and heated at 40/70°C, until the part reaches a temperature of 100°C, then cooling in calm air to room temperature.
Stress Relief: Stress relief is not performed as applied to traditional steels; it occurs during the aging stage.
Aging: The heating cycle should be in steps every 100°C, with a soak time of 30 minutes for every 25mm of the thinnest thickness, to prevent machining stresses from causing distortions. T he aging temperature is 500°C. Time at temperature should be 6 hours. After aging, the piece must be cooled in calm air. If the part has been solubilized again, carry out aging only after reaching room temperature.
Nitriding: Nitride between 480 and 510°C, varying according to the process used, obtaining hardness of 600-650 HV in the nitrided layer. As they have coincident temperatures, it is not necessary to carry out the aging treatment when the matrix is nitrided, as long as the nitriding time is sufficient for aging.
