NB 20 Heat Treatments
- Heat treatment for mechanical properties shall consist of:
- either normalizing, which shall include austenitizing at between 850°C and 950°C, followed by air cooling,
- or quenching in water, at a temperature of between 850°C and 950°C, followed by tempering at over 600°C. - Heat treated should be normalized or quenched. The minimum actual temperature is 649°C. The steel after heat preservation shall be furnace cooled or air cooled. Heat treatment of steel plate temperature during the temperature deviation should not exceed +/-10°C.
