NMX B-180 Grade 4 Heat Treatments
- Normalized and tempered: Heat to a uniform temperature of min. 816°C, cooled in air and subsequently reheating to a suitable tempering temperature. Only for seamless pipes, reheat and control the final temperature of process in a range of 845 C to 945°C and cooled in a controlled atmosphere furnace, followed by tempering Seamless pipe Grades 1, 6 and 10 may be heat treated by uniform heating to a temperature not less than 815°C followed by quenching in a liquid bath and subsequently reheating to a suitable tempering temperature, in rather than any of the other heat treatments described in the preceding paragraphs Quenched and tempered: Heated to a uniform temperature of 800°C ± 15°C, and maintaining this temperature for a min. of 2 minutes/in. of thickness or one hour per 25.4 mm thick (not less than 15 minutes) and quenching by immersion in circulating water. Reheat the tubes to reach a uniform temperature between 565°C and 605°C, maintaining this temperature for a time of 2 minutes /mm thick or one hour per 25.4 mm thick (not less than 15 minutes) and cooled in air or water at a rate not less than 165°C/h. Double normalized and tempered: Heated to a uniform temperature of 900°C ± 15°C, and maintain this temperature for a min. of 2 minutes/ in. of thickness, or one hour per 25.4 mm thick (not less than 15 minutes) and cooled in air. Heating again until the tubes reach a uniform temperature of 790°C ± 15°C, holding this temperature for a min. of 2 minutes/mm thick or one hour per 25.4 mm (not less than 15 minutes) and cooled in air. Finally reheated to a uniform temperature of 565°C to 605°C, and maintain this temperature for a min. of 2 minutes/mm thick, or one hour per 25.4 mm (not less than 15 minutes), and cooled in air or water at a speed not less than 165°C/h.
