ASME 1.7715 Heat Treatments
- Normalizing and tempering (+NT):
-Normalizing: 930 - 990°C, air cooling;
-Tempering: 680 - 730°C, air cooling.
It may be necessary in the case of wall thickness T above 10 mm or T/D > 0.15 to apply quenching and tempering in order to achieve the intended structure and material properties.
Normalizing includes Normalizing Forming. Normalized Forming shall be carried out in a temperature range from 880 - 1000°C. - Normalized and tempered (+NT) or Quenched and tempered (+QT): Austenitizing or solution annealing at 950 - 990°C, cooling in air, polymer or oil. Tempering at 670 - 720°C, cooling in air or furnace.
