SAE 6557 Heat Treatments
- Heat treatment: Preheat in two steps at 450 to 500°C (842 to 932°F) and at 850 to 900°C (1562 to 1652°F), hold for one minute at each temperature, austenitize at 1120°C (2050°F), quench down to 38 to 49°C (100 to 120°F) or lower in air, temper three times at 560°C (1040°F) at least 1 hour at temperature each time, air cool to room temperature, 25°C (77°F), between tempers.
