ASME 1.7335 Heat Treatments
- Normalizing and tempering (+NT):
Normalizing: 900 - 960°C, air cooling;
Tempering: 660 - 730°C, air cooling.
It may be necessary in the case of wall thickness T above 10 mm or T/D > 0.15 to apply quenching and tempering in order to achieve the intended structure and material properties.
Normalizing includes Normalizing Forming. Normalized Forming shall be carried out in a temperature range from 880 - 1000°C. - Normalized and tempered (+NT): Austenitizing or solution annealing at 890 - 950°C, cooling in air. Tempering at 630 - 740°C, cooling in air or furnace.
Normalized and tempered (+NT) or Quenched and tempered (+QT): Austenitizing or solution annealing at 890 - 950°C, cooling in air, oil, polymer or water. Tempering at 630 - 740°C, cooling in air or furnace.
