SAE Custom 455 Heat Treatments
- Cold work material (condition C) shall be heat-treated to spring temper (condition CH 850) by age-tempering at 454°C (850°F) for 30 minutes.
Solution treatment: 829°C (1525°F). Hold 30 min. Quench in water, polymer or oil. - Precipitation heat treated by heating to 455°C ± 5, holding at heat for 30 minutes ± 3, and cooling in air.
