PROPRIETARY 13RM19 Heat Treatments
- Strip tempering at 480°C (896°F) for 2h. Wire batch tempering at 350°C (660°F) for 0.5 - 3h. Tempering in a continuous conveyer furnace, where holding times at full temperature are very short, the temperature can preferably be increased to about 425°C (780°F). The holding time should be at least 3 minutes as shorter times might result in uneven tempering.
Tension springs coiled with initial tension batch: annealing at 200°C (390°F) for 0.5-3h, or continuous tempering in a conveyor furnace with a holding time of 3-5 min. at about 250°C (480°F). - The strength of cold rolled steel can be increased by a tempering operation at 480°C (896°F) for 2 hours. For cold rolled material with a tensile strength above about 1400 MPa, an increase in tensile strength of about 100-200 MPa can be expected. Tempering is normally carried out by the customer after forming. To avoid discoloration, parts should be carefully cleaned before heat treatment. Tempering in open air furnaces gives a harmless brownish oxide on the surface.
