PROPRIETARY RA5W Heat Treatments
- Annealed: Gradually heated to 855°C, slow cooled in furnace (take the usual precautions to avoid decarburization).
Quenched and tempered: First preheating at 550°C; Second preheating at 850°C; Heating at 1120-1200°C, air or gas cooling (for massive parts, cooling at air can be replaced by quenching in a salt bath at 550°C, followed by stopping in air. It is recommended to heat under neutral atmosphere). Tempered at 540-600°C following the solution temperature and desired hardness (it is necessary to make 2-3 successive tempers).
After solution treatment at 1180°C and two tempers at 540°C hardness of 61 HRC is obtained.
