SAE Custom 455 Grade 2 Heat Treatments
- Bars, wire, and forgings shall be solution heat treated by heating to 829°C ± 14°C (1525°F ± 25°F), holding at heat for not less than 30 minutes, and quenching in oil or water.
Wire, heat treated in a continuous process, shall be solution heat treated by heating to a temperature not lower than 829°C (1525°F), holding at heat for a time commensurate with thickness and the heating equipment and procedure used, and cooling in air.
Precipitation heat treated:
H 950: 510°C ± 6 (950°F ± 10), 4 hours ± 0.25 h.
H1000: 538°C ± 6 (1000°F ± 10), 4 hours ± 0.25 h.
