PROPRIETARY 16MnCr5 Heat Treatments


  • Hot-forming at 1150 to 850°C.
    Normalizing at 880°C, air.
    Core hardening at 860 to 900°C, oil, polymer, salt bath.
    Carbonitriding at 750 to 930°C, gas.
    Carburizing at 880 to 980°C.
    Hardening carburizing surf. at 810 to 840°C, oil, polymer, salt bath (160-250°C).
    Str.reliev (+SR) at 150 to 200°C.
    Soft annealing (+A) at 650 to 700°C, frunace cooling.
    Isothermal annealing (+I) at 870°C, furnace cooling to 650°C, tha air.
    Spheroidizing (+AC) at 730 to 750°C furnace cooling 50°C/h to 680°C, pause cooling to 400°C than air.
    End quench hardenability at 870°C, water.
    Pre-heating welding (welding must be carried out on the annealed state and before carburizing) at 150 to 350°C.
    Stress-relieving after welding at 600°C furnace cooling.
    Transformation annealing (+FP) at 950 to 1000°C, quick cooling to 630 to 650°C, stop acc. to thickness of the material, then air.
    Mechanical properties at different tempering temperatures obtained after quenching at 870°C in oil.
  • Water quenching: 820-900°C; Oil quenching: 830-900°C.
