ASTM A 240 S34700 Heat Treatments
- Heat to 1040°C (1900°F) minimum, quenched in water or rapidly cooled by other means at a rate sufficient to prevent reprecipitation of carbides (acc. to ASTM A480/A480M).
For grades stabilized with titanium or niobium, solution-annealing temperatures above 1066°C (1950°F) can impair the resistance to intergranular corrosion after subsequent exposure to sensitizing conditions in the stabilized grades.
